How Reiki Balances Chakras and Auras for Everyday Alignment

In this series of blogs, Robyn explains many of the common spiritual terms, “buzzwords” often used in Reiki and other metaphysical practices.

A common question is, “How does Reiki balance the chakras and aura?” Reiki brings harmony to the energy system through a gentle flow of life force that supports the body’s natural wisdom. The chakras organize the currents of energy within you, while the aura reflects the vitality that surrounds you.

Chakras and auras are central concepts in energy work. They represent how life force energy flows both within and around the body, significantly influencing your thoughts, emotions, and how you interact with the world. When these areas feel bright and aligned, your inner and outer life respond with more ease.

Reiki aligns your chakras by awakening the light within the body, steadying the foundation of the lower chakras, opening the pathways of intuition and insight in the upper chakras, and strengthening your auric field around you. This creates a sense of alignment that you can feel in your breath, in your presence, and in the way you move through your day. Even a few minutes of Reiki each day brings balance to places where stress, emotion, or responsibility may have created tension.

In our recent Distance Reiki Share, we explored what these terms actually mean and how Reiki brings steadiness and clarity into daily life. This blog shares the practical teachings you can use in self-care, client work, and Reiki classes.

Chakras and auras are often the first energy concepts people encounter when they begin exploring spirituality. These words show up in wellness conversations, meditation apps, and yoga classes, and they carry a sense of mystery and possibility. At the same time, many people feel unsure about what these ideas really mean. Are chakras physical locations or symbolic maps? Does the aura truly extend around the body? And how does Reiki work with all of these ideas in a practical way? Reiki offers clarity because it helps you feel energy directly. Instead of relying on charts or theories, you experience the flow of life force moving through your body and your field. Reiki reveals the balance that is already within you, and the chakra and aura systems give you language to understand what you feel.

Background and Meaning

The language of chakras and auras comes from many cultures and spiritual traditions. While current images often show seven colorful wheels of energy along the spine, the original teachings developed over thousands of years through deep meditation and spiritual inquiry.

Origins of the Chakra System

The Sanskrit word "chakra" means "wheel" or "disk." (It is pronounced Ch as in chocolate.) Early references in the Vedas described it as the turning of natural energy, evolving in yogic traditions to describe subtle energy centers in the human body. Tantric traditions describe how prana (life force) moves through nadis (channels), linking each chakra to elements, colors, and consciousness. Vajrayana Buddhism further developed these energy-body teachings.

The popular "seven chakra system" stems from these Tantric texts and was introduced to the West in the early 20th century. Reiki aligns with this system, flowing through these centers to promote balance and clarity, though it doesn't require specific belief in chakras.

Each chakra relates to specific aspects of your body and your perceptions. Each chakra has a color energy:

  1. Root chakra (base of spine): Safety, belonging, physical security, red
Sacral chakra (lower abdomen): Emotions, creativity, pleasure, orange
Solar plexus (upper abdomen): Confidence, personal power, action, yellow
Heart chakra (center of chest): Love, compassion, connection, green
Throat chakra (throat): Truth, communication, expression, blue
Third eye (forehead): Intuition, insight, vision, indigo
Crown chakra (top of head): Spiritual awareness, divine connection, violet
  2. Many practitioners also work with the Earth Star below your feet and the Soul Star above your head. These expand the energy system beyond the physical body into spiritual dimensions.

Many teachings incorporate the Earth Star, located beneath the feet and connected to the earth, and the Soul Star, positioned above the crown. These two points symbolize the flow of energy, both above and below, that moves through the body.

Origins of the Aura

The aura is the energy field surrounding the body. Also called your biofield. A strong aura supports boundaries and emotional steadiness. A thin or depleted aura can make you feel drained or oversensitive to your environment.

The concept of the aura, or body's energy field, spans many ancient cultures. Spiritual traditions from Vedic philosophy (prana and nadis) to Tibetan Buddhism (tsa, lung, and tigle), and practices like Mystical Christianity and Indigenous beliefs, describe a radiant light around living beings.

Across traditions, the aura explains how the inner self interacts with the world, exchanges impressions, and expresses spiritual qualities. Today’s interpretations merge these ideas with physics and biofields.

Reiki naturally aligns with this understanding; practitioners feel shifts in the aura as warmth, tingling, or stillness. Reiki clarifies and strengthens this field, promoting feelings of lightness and connection. Though definitions vary, the universal experience remains: the aura reflects life force, and Reiki illuminates its natural brightness.

How Reiki Works with Chakras and Auras

Reiki offers a powerful, intelligent flow of energy that works to harmonize your system of chakras and aura. The chakras serve as central organizers for life force within the body, while the aura reflects the outward radiation of that energy. Reiki flows through both, restoring balance and revealing harmony from within.

Reiki's flow is without force, moving through the chakras and aura with innate intelligence. Practitioners often experience heat, pulsing, or stillness, and clients report feeling lighter, calmer, or more present after the energy moves through their field.

Daily life, including stress, responsibilities, and emotional experiences, can disrupt the flow of energy, causing blockages in the chakras and auric field. Reiki restores steadiness by releasing these blocks, healing the underlying causes, and returning the body, mind, and emotions associated with each chakra to a stable state of balance. Consistent self-Reiki is frequently found to promote feelings of grounding, clarity, and centeredness.

Supporting the Healing Process with Reiki Symbols

Reiki symbols are valuable supports that open channels for clarity, allowing the Reiki energy to perform the actual organization and balancing:

  • CKR: Stabilizes and strengthens the energy structure, often supporting the grounding and power of the lower chakras.
  • SHK: Brings harmony to the mental and emotional layers, which may soften and organize the middle chakras.
  • HSZSN: Integrates and connects the entire system across time, space, and consciousness, potentially opening connection and insight in the upper chakras.

Any of your Reiki master symbols and Karuna Reiki® symbols will guide you in how to work with them. They will automatically provide their energy in your Reiki sessions.

Reiki Practices and Skills

Here are a few simple practices to deepen your awareness and experience of your chakras and aura through sensation. Activate your Reiki energy.

Self-Reiki Hand Placements:

  • Place your hands on the major chakra areas: lower abdomen, navel, upper abdomen, heart, throat/collarbones, forehead, and crown.
  • Notice which areas feel most receptive or where you are naturally drawn to linger.

Aura Sweep:

  • Hover your hands a few inches above your body, moving slowly from your head to your feet.
  • Pay attention to any shifts in sensation or where your hands feel guided to pause, and place your hands on those chakras.

Energy Support:

  • Visualize a gentle Reiki bubble surrounding your aura. This practice helps to strengthen your energetic field and maintain mental and emotional clarity.

Call Your Energy Home:

  • Imagine your auric field is about a foot around your body.
  • Call any scattered energy to come back to your body.
  • Imagine your returning energy traveling through the Reiki bubble surrounding your aura. (#3)
  • Your scattered energy is cleansed in the Reiki bubble and is now integrated into your aura.

Grounding Breath:

  • Place your hands on your lower abdomen.
  • Inhale deeply for a count of four and exhale for a count of six.
  • Focus on the downward flow of energy, into the earth, connecting your awareness to the Earth Star for greater stability.

Practitioner Deep Listening - Byosen Scanning:

  • As a practitioner, you can enhance your listening skills through Byosen scanning.
  • Hover your hand above the recipient's body and observe any subtle changes in temperature, density, or overall sensation.
  • These shifts act as a guide, directing the flow of Reiki energy to where it is needed most.

Why This Matters

People often ask how to know if a chakra is unbalanced or if the aura needs support. Sensations such as tension, fatigue, or emotional heaviness can show where energy wants attention. Some people see colors. Others feel warmth or stillness. Some feel nothing in particular yet notice changes afterward. All of these experiences are valid. Reiki does not require specific perceptions. The energy works regardless of how you sense it.

Balanced chakras and a strong aura influence your everyday life in very practical ways. You focus more easily. You regulate emotions with more steadiness. You feel clearer when communicating. You hold boundaries with less effort. This balance becomes part of your experience. A steady energy system helps you move through your day with confidence and presence. Reiki supports this balance by reminding your body, mind, and spirit of the harmony already within you.

Reflection Questions

  1. Consider these questions to deepen your awareness:
What did you notice in your body when Reiki began to flow into your chakras today?
  2. Which chakra felt the most active, and what impression or message did it reveal to you?
  3. How did the space around your body feel, and what qualities did you sense in your aura after the practice?
  4. What intuitive insight or inner knowing surfaced as you worked with your energy today?
  5. What part of your system felt more stable, grounded, or aligned after the chakra experience?
  6. How will you bring this awareness into your daily life through simple practices you can continue this week?

Closing and Integration

Chakras and auras may sound abstract at first, yet Reiki makes their meaning tangible. Balance becomes something you feel in your breath, your body, and your presence. As you continue practicing, these concepts move from language into lived experience. Reiki reveals harmony in each moment you pause, place your hands, and allow the energy to flow. This awareness follows you into your day, supporting how you think, feel, and act. As you move forward, let these practices help you recognize your steady center. Reiki is always available to guide your energy back to clarity and connection.
